Interior Shutters

Accentuate Your Home Decor

Trying to find the right window treatment for your home can be an exhausting chore.  The challenge often lies in trying to find the perfect combination of form and function.  You want something that accentuates the other design elements on the inside of your home, but you are hopeful of getting a window covering that allows you to control light entry.  Look no further.  Interior shutters just might be the perfect solution to your window worries.

The classic look of interior window shutters can turn a home from one without a personality to a warm and inviting show place.  There are numerous types and styles from which to choose.  Since these are generally pricier than many of the other window treatment options, take some time to explore styles, brands, colors and more before making a decision.

Your existing design scheme, for example, might be more in line with traditional shutters.  These are the kind that mesh nicely with a colonial architectural scheme.  Though their construction is similar to plantation shutters, there are some subtle differences.  The louvers used in the traditional shutter are typically somewhat smaller than those of the plantation shutter.  The function of both these styles is essentially the same.  Plantation shutters have increased in popularity and seem to work, design-wise, even in more contemporary settings.

A rustic alternative are board and batten shutters.  Though these are traditionally seen on the exterior of homes, some manufactures have adapted this window covering for the inside.  These are more likely to be used on an older home or cabin-like construction as they have little appeal in a home that puts a premium on high-end design.

The choice of material for interior window shutters can vary greatly.  The classic wood look, with a stain that highlights the natural wood grain, is a timeless standby.  However, for durability and cost savings, vinyl and polyurethane are other choices.

For some nice classic options, take a look at some of the different designs at Horizon Shutters and Shutterland.  They pride themselves on their use of only the finest quality wood which, combined with various colors of wood stain, create spectacular shutters for the interior of any room.

Some of the other brands to consider for a wide variety of styles and materials are Hunter Douglass, DeVenco, Kestrel, Pinecrest and Sunburst.  Most of these companies utilize vinyl, polyurethane and PVC-fiberglass in addition to wood in the construction of their interior window shutters.

Again, take a long look at these wonderful window coverings before you commit to anything else.  But rest assured that you wont go wrong with indoor shutters.
