Relaxing Outside

Your home is your refuge -- a place to retreat and relax.  If you are like most people, your home doubles as a place to get away from the daily grind and a place to recharge your batteries.  The place of refuge and relaxation is even more effective when it combines the interior elements of the home with the fresh air in your own back yard.  And nothing enhances the rejuvenating effects of morning coffee or a backyard barbeque more than doing it beneath a well-made and well-placed patio cover.

Though the materials and the styles of the patio cover you ultimately choose are as varied as the seasons themselves, they all provide many of the same features.  It may simply be the promise of shade that you value in your cover.  Or you may live in a region where the pleasant weather is interrupted by an occasional rain flurry and you want somewhere protected to wait it out.  Whatever your need or your design preference, there is a patio cover to match.

Wood, aluminum, canvas or many other fabrics can be used to build a quality cover for your patio.  Many kits are available that are easy to assemble.  Or you can have a contractor custom make one for you.  If you do identify a manufacturer or reseller of a cover that you are tempted to purchase, make sure they offer some kind of repair and parts warranty.  If you opt for a DIY kit, you might have a tough time with parts ordering if that need should arise.  And if you choose a contractor/builder, check out references carefully to be assured that they will stand behind their work.

Metal might be the choice for you.  Aluminum patio covers are now more popular than ever.  These are very lightweight, yet they provide a sturdy cover that will give you more than adequate protection against rain or sun.  An aluminum/fiberglass hybrid patio cover can provide protection, but will allow the filtered sun to brighten up your day while keeping out the overbearing heat.

Canvas, treated polyester, and other materials can be used for covers of the retractable variety.  With a retractable cover, you can enjoy the pleasant effects of the sun on a brisk morning and then roll out the cover as the day heats up.  Perhaps you like the look of wood grain in your cover.  In that case you might be interested in a patio gazebo.  Or you can opt for a removable canvas canopy that can be erected during the spring and summer and taken down when patio season comes to an end.

Use the above ideas as a spring board to come up with an idea of your own.  Whatever type you end up with, a patio cover will help lure you outside to take advantage of the restorative effects of nature provided by your own back yard.
